Emily’s Ball

May 10th, 2008

Last night (May 9th) I went to a charity ball in the Riviera International Conference Centre in Torquay. I was invited by word of mouth, and hoped to take my new girlfriend for a good night out.

Emily’s ball was the idea of Miss Torbay (an old school friend) to celebrate the birthday of Emily Gelghorn – who would of been 23 this year. Emily died at the age of 11, the killer being a brain tumour. This event was a big fund-raising challenge.

Although my girlfriend was unable to go, I still made the most of it. I went with two good friends and their dates. The event was ‘Black Tie’ which meant that all were well dressed and looking good.

A live band played (The Cadence) with a DJ whilst they took a break. There was a tombola, chocolate fondue fountain, and professional photography going on as side lines to the event.

Overall I enjoyed it, but it was a shame I was without a date :-(

Morning Traffic

February 5th, 2007

If mornings aren’t already bad enough, being so early in the day… Vehicle traffic, congestion… TRAFFIC JAMS!!!

I don’t know why traffic jams are named so, when jam moves at a much faster pace than my girlfriends car in this mornings traffic. Over one hour to get to the Penn Inn from Torquay and we both still had to get to Exeter. Never the less we were both late. Zoe (my girlfriend) had lost far more of her working day, as she was to start work 15 mins before I should.

Traffic Sucks, I think we need to either remove some cars from the roads or build the ‘kerswell bypass’. A road that has been rumoured about for years. The additional time, and stress added by traffic must raise peoples blood pressure through the roof. I have been stuck in traffic, but today took the biscuit.
